After emerging from yet another life-impacting conference over the weekend, I am left thinking that so many of us have settled for our comfortable, tiny little world of knowing who we THINK God is, not realizing that there is so much more we are missing out on.
Can we really know God? How do we perceive Him? Do we see, hear, feel, or do we simply ‘sense?’ Jesus was able to ‘perceive’ the thoughts of people -
Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “why do you question this in
your hearts?” Lk 5:22 NLT
Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their
hearts, and he said to them, "why are you thinking these things?” Mk 2:8 NIV
This is how we are meant to be living – spirit to spirit, in heaven yet on earth, so we can know Him. This is why Paul said -
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you
the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” Eph 1:17 NIV
Recently, I was taken by the Spirit of Wisdom into the desert. The road before us was covered with sand and there was nothing but sand dunes as far as the eye could see. The wind was blowing sand over the road behind us and I was wondering how on earth we were going to find our way back. Suddenly I thought of a compass, wondering if I had one. Wisdom knew my thoughts and I heard her say ‘you are thinking with earthly wisdom, I want to teach you the wisdom from above.’ I suddenly perceived Wisdom’s thoughts and knew that the wisdom from above would simply move the sand to see the road. So I began to think about the sand on the road, imagining a wind coming and blowing away the sand and suddenly, the road appeared – as a long stretch before us. Wisdom then said ‘I want to teach you about the desert of temptation.’ I started to perceive the lesson, without any words spoken. Temptations will come into our lives to obstruct the path, so that we can’t see where we are going and before long, we’re lost and without direction. We need Wisdom from above to help us through those times, to get us through difficulties, to stop us from being choked by temptation itself. I was reminded of the scripture -
“ The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
Prov 4:7 NIV.
When we are living in heaven yet on earth, we learn to draw on Wisdom, for her insight and understanding in all situations. We learn to live, perceiving the Father’s thoughts, a silent communication with the realms of heaven, knowing our identity and knowing our authority, because in Him we live and move and have our being.
The question is:
Do we want to come up higher?
